What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle, natural form of energy healing that helps activate the body’s own ability to restore balance and wellbeing—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Reiki is offered through light touch or hands just above the body, and can also be given remotely — many clients are surprised by how powerful distant sessions can feel.

Many NHS hospitals offer Reiki as a complementary therapy alongside clinical practice, with research into its effectiveness for conditions like cancer, depression and addiction becoming more common. All you need is an openness to Reiki and to reconnect with yourself.

Where does Reiki come from?

Reiki has ancient roots in India and the East and was re-introduced in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui, a Japanese monk. His vision was to create a healing practice that was simple, accessible, and open to all — regardless of background or beliefs. The word “Reiki” means “universal life force.”  We all have energy flowing through us, and when we’re well, that energy moves freely. But stress, illness, or emotional pain can block this flow, leading to imbalance.

What happens in a session?

During a Reiki session, you simply lie down (fully clothed), close your eyes, and relax. I work as a channel for the energy, allowing your system to return to a more balanced, peaceful state. Some people feel a sense of warmth, tingling, release, or deep calm. It's fine if you just feel sleepy! Reiki meets you exactly where you are. For distance Reiki, simply find a quiet, comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed — whether lying down or seated — and allow yourself to relax, ideally with your eyes closed. There’s no need for us to be online, as Reiki works energetically and doesn’t require live communication. You’ll just rest and receive. If you’re curious but unsure — that’s okay. You don’t have to understand it fully to benefit from it. Many clients are surprised by how grounding and restorative Reiki feels. I’d love to hold space for you to rest, realign, and reconnect.

Is Reiki safe?

Yes — Reiki is completely non-invasive and safe for everyone, including children, pregnant people, and those with chronic or acute conditions. It works complements medical or therapeutic treatments.

Do I need to believe in it for it to work?

Reiki isn’t based on belief — it’s a subtle, natural energy that flows whether you “believe” or not. Openness helps, but you will still benefit even if you don't understand how Reiki works.

Can I combine Reiki with other therapies?

Yes! Reiki blends so well with other holistic therapies. It can complement bodywork, talk therapy, acupuncture, or medical treatments by supporting energetic balance. I offer massage combined with Reiki.

How will I feel afterwards?

Most people leave feeling calm, lighter, and deeply rested. You might also feel more emotional or sleepy as your body processes the energy shift — that’s normal, and part of the healing.

"I had the most incredible distance Reiki treatment recently with Louise. She is so intuitive and grounded and carries such a calming energy. She connected to my energy with ease and during the treatment I had a really beautiful experience when I connected with my spirit guides. It was a truly wonderful moment. After the treatment I felt like I was walking on air with a deep sense of calm and peace."
